A subsequent visit rendered by a psychiatrist to a patient in a non-emergency, acute care hospital setting. This code applies to each visit during the first five weeks after admission. As defined in , a subsequent visit is any routine assessment in hospital following the hospital admission assessment. Key elements include: - Attendance at Surgery: If a referring physician is asked by the patient to be present during surgery but does not assist, the attendance is billed as a subsequent visit. - Multidisciplinary Care: When a patient's condition requires care from several physicians in different disciplines, each physician's visit constitutes a subsequent visit.

- Use C192 for routine psychiatric follow-up assessments during the first 35 days of an acute care hospital admission.
- Use C192 when attending a patient in surgery at their request for support, provided no surgical assistance is rendered.
- Use C192 when providing psychiatric care as part of a multidisciplinary team for a patient already admitted to the hospital.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing C192 beyond the 35-day limit; ensure you switch to C197 for weeks 6-13 or C199 thereafter.
- Attempting to bill C192 for emergency assessments of another physician's patient; these must be billed using the 'A' prefix codes.
- Incorrectly calculating the 5-week window when a patient is transferred; the limit is based on the original hospital admission date, not the date of transfer to your service.
Billing Tips
- If you are the Most Responsible Physician (MRP) and meet the remuneration criteria, append E083 or E084 to maximize the value of your C192 claim.
