An intermediate assessment for the pronouncement of death for a non-emergency hospital in-patient, subject to the same conditions as A777. As per , this service is for pronouncing a patient dead in a location other than in the patient's home (in this case, a hospital). The service may include any counselling of relatives that is rendered during the same visit, and completion of the death certificate. The claim must be submitted using the diagnostic code for the underlying cause of death, as recorded on the death certificate, rather than the immediate cause of death.
When to Use
- Use C777 when pronouncing a patient dead in a hospital setting where you are the attending physician or the physician on call for the patient.
- Use this code when the pronouncement occurs during a routine visit or a non-emergency call to the hospital, distinguishing it from emergency-based codes like W777.
