D030
D030 – Metatarsophalangeal - closed reduction
OHIP Orthopaedic Surgery Code — MUSCULOSKELETAL SYSTEM SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Closed reduction of a metatarsophalangeal dislocation. This is a non-incisional procedure to correct a dislocation of the joint between a metatarsal bone and a phalanx in the foot. Additional fees may apply for the application of a plaster cast outside of a hospital (E584). Code E579 is for each additional metatarsophalangeal closed reduction.
When to Use
- Use D030 for the manual, non-incisional correction of a dislocated metatarsophalangeal joint, typically performed under local or regional block.
- Use D030 when managing multiple dislocations by billing the first joint as D030 and subsequent metatarsophalangeal reductions using E579.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill D030 in conjunction with interphalangeal joint procedures like D027 or D029 on the same day, as E579 is specifically restricted from being billed with these codes.
- Avoid billing E584 for casting if the procedure was performed within a hospital setting, as this add-on is strictly limited to office or home-based services.
Billing Tips
- Ensure that if you are performing multiple reductions, you bill the primary D030 once and use E579 for each additional metatarsophalangeal joint to maximize the claim value.
