Closed reduction of sacrum and/or unilateral SI joint dislocation, with or without closed reduction of anterior pelvic ring fracture(s), including percutaneous fixation of sacrum and/or SI joint
When to Use
- Use D059 for the closed reduction and percutaneous fixation of a unilateral sacroiliac joint dislocation, even if an anterior pelvic ring fracture is also reduced during the same session.
- Select D059 when performing percutaneous fixation of the sacrum, as this code specifically includes the fixation component in its definition.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill D059 in conjunction with D060, as D060 is intended for bilateral procedures or more extensive open reductions that fall outside the scope of this closed/percutaneous code.
- Avoid billing an assistant fee as a standard suffix; you must use M400B with an IC letter, as there are no pre-assigned assistant units for D059.
