E380 – Laminoplasty - additional level

Each additional level of laminoplasty (includes fixation of lamina), when performed with N520.
When to Use
- Use E380 in conjunction with N520 when performing a multi-level laminoplasty to decompress the spinal canal across more than one vertebral segment.
- Apply E380 for each additional vertebral level beyond the initial level covered by the primary N520 claim.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing E380 as a standalone code without an accompanying N520 claim will result in automatic rejection.
- Miscounting the number of levels treated, as E380 is strictly for 'additional' levels; ensure the total units of E380 match the number of levels beyond the first.
- Attempting to bill E380 for laminectomies or other spinal decompression procedures that are not specifically defined as laminoplasty.
Billing Tips
- Always link E380 to the same date of service and the same primary N520 procedure to ensure the claim is processed correctly as an add-on.
