E512 – Additional midtarsal(s) to R696
OHIP Surgical Assists Code — MUSCULOSKELETAL SYSTEM SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
This fee is applicable for the arthrodesis (surgical fusion) of each additional midtarsal joint of the foot, beyond the first one covered by R696. This service is performed in the same operative session as R696. The parent procedure R696 includes any necessary neurovascular exploration and/or protection and tenolysis, as noted on page of the Schedule.
When to Use
- Use E512 for each additional midtarsal joint arthrodesis performed beyond the first joint covered by the primary procedure code R696.
- Apply this code when performing multi-joint midtarsal fusions during the same operative session as the primary R696 procedure.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing E512 without a corresponding R696 claim on the same day will result in an automatic rejection.
- Attempting to bill E512 in conjunction with R695 is prohibited, as R696 and R695 are mutually exclusive for the same patient on the same day.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the number of units for E512 accurately reflects the total number of additional midtarsal joints fused beyond the first joint included in R696.
