This is an add-on code to be claimed for each additional metacarpal/phalangeal dislocation that is treated with closed reduction. This code is intended to be used in conjunction with D004, which covers the first closed reduction.
When to Use
- Use E577 for each additional metacarpal or phalangeal dislocation reduced during the same session as the primary reduction (D004).
- Apply this code when multiple digits are involved in a single trauma event, with D004 covering the first digit and E577 covering subsequent digits.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing E577 without a corresponding D004 on the same claim will result in an automatic rejection.
- Attempting to use E577 for fracture reductions (e.g., D006) is incorrect; it is strictly limited to dislocations as an add-on to D004.
