E599 – Tenolysis - each additional
OHIP Surgical Assists Code — MUSCULOSKELETAL SYSTEM SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
This is an add-on fee payable for each additional tenolysis procedure. It applies when multiple tendons are released in the same operative session. It is billed in conjunction with the primary procedure code, R556. This applies to tenolysis in the elbow and forearm (per additional tendon).
When to Use
- Use E599 for each additional tendon released beyond the first tendon, which is billed under the primary code R556.
- Apply this code when performing a multi-tendon release within the elbow or forearm during the same operative session.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing E599 without an accompanying R556 claim will result in an automatic rejection as it is an add-on code.
- Attempting to use E599 for tenolysis procedures outside of the elbow or forearm anatomical region is a common billing error that leads to audit flags.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the number of units for E599 matches the exact number of additional tendons released beyond the primary one covered by R556.
