E707
E707 – Gastrostomy - when done with another intra-abdominal procedure
OHIP Surgical Assists Code — DIGESTIVE SYSTEM SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Payable for performing a gastrostomy when done with another intra-abdominal procedure. This is an add-on code and must be billed in conjunction with a primary intra-abdominal surgery.
When to Use
- Use E707 when performing a gastrostomy tube placement during a laparotomy for a primary procedure such as a bowel resection or exploratory laparotomy.
- Use E707 when a gastrostomy is added to a primary intra-abdominal surgery, such as a Nissen fundoplication or other gastric surgery, where the gastrostomy is not the primary procedure.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing E707 as a standalone procedure will result in a rejection; it must be submitted on the same claim as the primary intra-abdominal surgical code.
- Do not bill E707 if the gastrostomy is the primary reason for the surgery, as this code is specifically designated for add-on status during other intra-abdominal procedures.
- Failure to link the primary procedure code on the same claim will trigger a rejection due to the mandatory dependency on an intra-abdominal surgical code.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the primary intra-abdominal procedure is listed first on the claim to establish the surgical context required for the E707 add-on.
- Apply age-based premiums or after-hours premiums (e.g., E409A, E410A) to the total surgical package, as E707 is eligible for these percentage-based increases when the primary procedure qualifies.
