E742 – Additional procedure with oesophageal hiatus hernia repair

Add-on fee payable when S091, S092, or S079, with or without gastroplasty (E744), is performed in conjunction with cholecystectomy, and/or vagotomy with or without drainage procedures. This fee is added to S091, S092, or S079 (with or without E744) for each additional procedure performed. For any other combination of surgical procedures with oesophageal hiatus hernia repair, with the exception of S161 and S100, see Surgical Preamble .
When to Use
- Use E742 when performing a cholecystectomy concurrently with a hiatus hernia repair (S091, S092, or S079).
- Use E742 when performing a vagotomy, with or without a drainage procedure, alongside a hiatus hernia repair (S091, S092, or S079).
Common Pitfalls
- Billing E742 for procedures other than cholecystectomy or vagotomy without first checking the Surgical Preamble SP2 for eligibility.
- Attempting to claim E742 as a standalone procedure; it is strictly an add-on code that must be linked to a primary hernia repair code.
Billing Tips
- You may claim E742 for each additional qualifying procedure performed, such as claiming it once for a cholecystectomy and again for a vagotomy during the same operative session.
