E908
E908 – Removal of intracerebral and/or subdural haematoma in conjunction with a ruptured intracranial aneurysm or arteriovenous malformation
OHIP Surgical Assists Code — NEUROLOGICAL SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
When to Use
- Use E908 when you must evacuate a space-occupying intracerebral or subdural haematoma to gain access to or stabilize a ruptured intracranial aneurysm (N105).
- Use E908 when performing a craniotomy for an arteriovenous malformation (N154) that necessitates the concurrent removal of a significant associated haematoma.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing E908 as a standalone procedure; it is strictly an add-on and will be rejected if not submitted with N105 or N154 on the same claim.
- Attempting to bill E908 for routine clot removal incidental to standard aneurysm or AVM dissection, which is often considered part of the base procedure (N105/N154) rather than a distinct haematoma evacuation.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the operative report explicitly details the volume and location of the haematoma requiring evacuation to justify the additional complexity beyond the primary N105 or N154 procedure.
