G024 – Androstenedione
OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Androstenedione test. A laboratory service (“test”) set out in this section is an insured service eligible for payment only when rendered by a physician (“the original physician”), or by a physician substituting for the original physician, who performs the test in the original physician's own office for the physician's own patient. Tests listed under 'Reproductive medicine' are only payable to those physicians where point of care testing is necessary for their practice.
When to Use
- Use G024 when performing point-of-care Androstenedione testing in your own office to investigate hyperandrogenism or adrenal pathology in a non-fertility context.
- Bill this code when you personally perform the test and interpret the results to guide immediate clinical management for your own patient.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G024 for tests performed in support of IVF or artificial insemination will result in automatic rejection or clawback under Regulation 552.
- Submitting G024 for tests sent to an external laboratory is a billing error, as this code is strictly for point-of-care testing performed within your own office.
- Failure to document the specific test result, your interpretation, and the resulting treatment decision in the chart will lead to a full recovery of the fee during an audit.
Billing Tips
- Ensure your practice profile supports the necessity of point-of-care testing to avoid rejection, as this code is restricted to physicians where such testing is essential to their clinical practice.
