G036 – Sperm antibodies – screen
OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
This service is for a laboratory screening test to detect the presence of sperm antibodies. This test is commonly used in the assessment of infertility. This is a screening test; for quantitative measurement, see G037 for sperm antibody titre.
When to Use
- Use G036 when performing an initial qualitative screening for the presence of antisperm antibodies in patients undergoing an infertility workup.
- Select G036 when the clinical objective is a binary positive or negative result rather than a precise concentration measurement.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G036 in conjunction with G037 for the same patient encounter is often flagged as a duplicate or redundant service unless distinct clinical necessity is documented.
- Submitting G036 for routine semen analysis without a specific indication of immunological infertility risk can lead to rejection for lack of medical necessity.
Billing Tips
- Reserve G036 for the screening phase and reserve G037 only for subsequent visits where a quantitative titre is required to monitor or further investigate a positive screen.
