G065
G065 – Epidural blood patch injected through existing epidural catheter
OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Epidural blood patch injected through existing epidural catheter.
When to Use
- Use G065 specifically when performing a blood patch through an epidural catheter that is already in situ, rather than performing a new needle placement.
- Use this code for post-dural puncture headache management when the catheter remains in place from a previous procedure, distinguishing it from the primary placement code G068.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G065 when a new needle placement is required will lead to audit discrepancies; use G068 if a new puncture is performed.
- Attempting to bill an additional consultation or assessment fee on the same day as G065 is often rejected unless the assessment is for a separate, unrelated clinical issue.
Billing Tips
- Always append the appropriate after-hours premium (E409, E410, E412, or E413) if the procedure meets the non-elective criteria and timing requirements to maximize the procedural value.
- Ensure the operative report clearly states that the blood patch was administered via an existing catheter to justify the use of G065 over the higher-valued G068.
