G103 – Debridement of maxillectomy cavity
OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Debridement of a maxillectomy cavity. This service is a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure under the Otolaryngology specialty. This procedure may be eligible for special visit premiums if the conditions for a special visit, as outlined on , are met.
When to Use
- Use G103 for the routine cleaning and removal of crusts or debris from a surgical maxillectomy cavity during a follow-up office visit.
- Use G103 when performing a localized debridement that does not meet the complexity or extent required for a formal surgical procedure code like Z305.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G103 in combination with a minor assessment code (A007) is often rejected as the assessment is considered included in the procedure fee.
- Attempting to bill G103 as a surgical procedure code will lead to denials; it is strictly categorized as a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure.
Billing Tips
- Always append the appropriate Special Visit Premium (Table I-IX) if the debridement is performed during an urgent or emergency encounter outside of standard office hours.
