This code represents the technical component of a hydrogen breath test, which covers the provision of premises, equipment, supplies, and personnel for performing the test. The corresponding professional component for interpretation is billed separately as G166. As per , the technical component of a diagnostic procedure is only eligible for payment where the physician has the necessary training and experience and maintains quality assurance documentation. Payment for this service is adjusted to 86.10% of the fee when rendered in a hospital.

The physician submitting a claim for the technical component is responsible for the complete quality assurance process for all elements of the technical component of the service, including data acquisition, reporting, and record keeping.
