OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits

Acute desensitisation, e.g. ATS, penicillin, is a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure. As with all insured services, it includes the - common elements of an insured service.

When to Use

  • Use G200 for the active administration of a desensitization protocol (e.g., rapid drug desensitization for penicillin or ATS) where the physician must actively manage the procedure.
  • Use G200 when the clinical focus is the therapeutic procedure itself, as the fee includes the brief assessment of the allergic condition required to perform the desensitization.

Common Pitfalls

  • Do not bill an additional office assessment code (e.g., A007) alongside G200 unless the patient has a distinct, unrelated acute infectious or medical condition requiring a separate assessment.
  • Avoid using G200 for routine allergy injections or standard immunotherapy, which are typically covered under different administrative or procedural frameworks.

Billing Tips

  • If the patient presents with a separate acute issue requiring a distinct assessment, document the separate diagnosis and clinical reasoning to justify claiming an assessment code in addition to G200.
  • Ensure the procedure note clearly reflects the active management of the desensitization process to support the claim during potential audits.
