Ventricular arrhythmia induction. To include programmed electrical stimulation, drug provocation and termination of arrhythmia, if necessary - once per patient per 24 hours.
When to Use
- Use G259 when performing programmed electrical stimulation (PES) specifically to induce ventricular arrhythmias for diagnostic evaluation.
- Use G259 for drug provocation protocols where the intent is to assess inducibility of ventricular arrhythmias in a controlled electrophysiology study setting.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill G259 in conjunction with G521, G522, G523, G395, or G391, as these codes are explicitly restricted and will trigger an automatic rejection.
- Avoid billing G259 more than once per patient per 24-hour period, as the fee is inclusive of all induction, provocation, and termination efforts performed during that window.
