G280 – Intra-uterine fetal transfusion
OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
This procedure covers an initial or subsequent intra-uterine fetal transfusion. Payment Adjustment Note: The services listed from Z439 to G288 (which includes G280) are subject to a multiple procedure payment reduction. When more than one of these procedures is carried out at one sitting, the additional procedures are payable at 50% of the listed benefits. This rule excludes G262 and G263. The fee for these cardiac catheterization procedures includes insertion of the catheter (including cutdown and repair of vessels if rendered), catheter placement, contrast injection, imaging, and interpretation.
When to Use
- Use G280 for the initial or any subsequent ultrasound-guided intra-uterine fetal blood transfusion for fetal anemia.
- Use this code when performing the procedure in a hospital setting where the catheterization and infusion are the primary therapeutic interventions.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G280 alongside other procedures in the Z439-G288 range without applying the 50% multiple procedure reduction rule, which will trigger an automatic adjustment or audit.
- Attempting to bill for imaging or catheter insertion separately, as these components are explicitly included in the G280 fee and are not separately payable.
Billing Tips
- Ensure you append the appropriate After Hours Procedure Premium (E409 or E410) if the procedure is non-elective and meets the specific time-of-day criteria for your provider type.
