When to Use
- Use G338 when performing a formal clonidine suppression test to rule out pheochromocytoma in patients with suspected catecholamine excess.
- Use this code specifically when you are personally present throughout the procedure to monitor the patient and oversee the serial blood draws.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill G038 or any other venipuncture codes separately, as G338 is an all-inclusive fee that covers the blood collection process.
- Avoid billing G338 in conjunction with G489, as these codes are mutually exclusive according to the Schedule of Benefits.
- Failure to document your continuous presence during the test will lead to recovery of funds during a Ministry audit.
