G378
G378 – Insertion of intrauterine contraceptive device
OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Insertion of intrauterine contraceptive device. This service is not eligible for payment on the same day as G552 (Removal of intrauterine contraceptive device).
When to Use
- Use G378 for the primary insertion of an IUD, regardless of whether it is hormonal or copper-based.
- Use G378 when replacing an existing IUD, provided the removal is performed on a separate date from the insertion to avoid the G552 restriction.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G378 and G552 on the same day will trigger an automatic rejection; if both are performed, you must bill only the insertion or defer the removal to a different date.
- Failing to append the E542 premium when the procedure is performed in a clinic or office setting results in an automatic loss of $11.55 per claim.
Billing Tips
- Always ensure the E542 premium is included for office-based insertions, as it is not automatically applied by the system.
