G384 – Infiltration of tissues for trigger point
OHIP Diagnostic & Therapeutic Procedures Code — DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Infiltration of tissues for a single trigger point. This service is for the first site. For additional sites, use G385. A maximum of 3 sites in total (one G384 and up to two G385) may be claimed per patient encounter. As per -, this service is delegable to a physician's employee (e.g., a nurse) in the physician's office under specific conditions of supervision and documentation.
When to Use
- Use G384 when performing an injection into a single myofascial trigger point, regardless of the substance injected.
- Use G384 as the primary code when treating multiple sites, followed by up to two units of G385 for the additional locations.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G384 more than once per patient encounter; the code is strictly for the first site only, with subsequent sites requiring G385.
- Attempting to claim G384 alongside an office visit fee (A007) for the same encounter, which will trigger a rejection as the procedure code includes the assessment component.
Billing Tips
- Always pair G384 with G385 if treating multiple trigger points to maximize the allowable fee per encounter, up to the three-site maximum.
- Leverage the exception in GP58 to bill G384 on the same day as counselling codes like K013 or K040, as this is one of the few procedures permitted to be claimed concurrently with time-based counselling.
