Venipuncture performed on a child. A child is defined as a person 2 years to and including 15 years of age (see ). This is listed as a delegatable procedure under the conditions outlined in -.
When to Use
- Use G482 for pediatric blood draws (ages 2-15) when the primary purpose of the visit is the collection of blood for diagnostic testing.
- Bill G482 when a nurse or medical assistant performs the venipuncture under your delegation, provided the documentation requirements of GP62 are met.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G482 for patients under 2 years of age; G480 is the correct code for infants and toddlers under 2.
- Submitting G482 as a standalone service when it is actually part of a minor procedure or assessment that already includes the cost of specimen collection in its fee schedule definition.
- Failing to document the name of the staff member who performed the procedure when delegating, which is a mandatory requirement for audit compliance.
Billing Tips
- You may bill G482 in addition to a counselling code like K013 or K033 on the same day, as it is not considered an inclusive service for those codes.
