This fee is for the professional component of Caloric testing with ENG. This diagnostic balance test consists of both a technical component, billed as G451, and this professional component. When to Use
- Use G533 only when you have personally reviewed the electronystagmography (ENG) tracings and generated a formal diagnostic report for the patient.
- Bill G533 in conjunction with G451 when you provide the professional interpretation for a caloric test performed in your office or facility.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G533 without a corresponding G451 claim for the technical component will trigger an audit or rejection as the professional component requires the technical procedure to be performed.
- Submitting G533 for a general neurological exam or a non-ENG balance assessment is an incorrect use of this specific diagnostic code.
