Chronic dialysis weekly team fee for hospital self-care haemodialysis or satellite haemodialysis. This service is billed as a weekly team fee. The physician should claim the code representing the predominant location and modality of care for the week. See also related codes G860, G861, G863, G864, G865, and G866.
When to Use
- Use G862 when managing patients undergoing chronic haemodialysis in a designated satellite facility rather than a primary hospital-based unit.
- Select G862 when the patient performs self-care dialysis within a hospital setting, distinguishing this from the facility-based care covered under G860 or G861.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G862 in conjunction with individual dialysis treatment fees is prohibited, as the weekly team fee is intended to be all-inclusive for the 7-day period.
- Claiming G862 when the patient's predominant care location for the week was a primary hospital unit instead of a satellite or self-care setting will result in a mismatch audit risk.
