Spheno-palatine ganglion block, transnasal topical, uni or bilateral. This is a therapeutic procedure involving the topical administration of an anesthetic agent to the spheno-palatine ganglion through the nasal route.
When to Use
- Use G921 for the acute management of cluster headaches or refractory migraines when performing a transnasal topical anesthetic block.
- Select G921 when providing therapeutic relief for trigeminal neuralgia or atypical facial pain via the sphenopalatine ganglion route.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing G921 on the same day as G232 will result in a rejection, as these are mutually exclusive for the same patient encounter.
- Attempting to claim G921 as a bilateral procedure will not increase the fee, as the code is defined as uni or bilateral and does not support quantity modifiers for both sides.
Billing Tips
- Ensure you append the appropriate Special Visit Premium if the procedure is performed in an emergency department or hospital setting, as G921 is eligible for these add-ons.
