Attendance at maternal delivery for high risk baby(ies) requires constant attendance at the delivery of a baby expected to be at risk by a physician who is not a paediatrician, and includes an assessment of the newborn. As an assessment, this service also includes the specific elements outlined in of the Schedule of Benefits.
When to Use
- Use H007 when you are specifically requested to attend a delivery for a high-risk newborn, such as in cases of meconium-stained amniotic fluid or maternal diabetes, and you are not the primary paediatrician.
- Use this code when you perform the initial newborn assessment immediately following a high-risk delivery where you provided constant attendance.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing H007 in addition to a newborn examination code like H001 or H002 for the same patient on the same day will trigger a rejection.
- Attempting to bill H007 when you are the primary paediatrician is incorrect; paediatricians must use the appropriate neonatal intensive care or paediatric assessment codes instead.
- Submitting H007 when you were not in constant attendance at the delivery will lead to audit recovery, as the code specifically requires presence during the birth process.
