K014 is for transplant counselling, payable in circumstances where transplant or donation is imminent. The purpose is to provide the recipient, donor, or a family member with adequate information and clinical data to enable an informed decision regarding organ transplantation. The service can be provided to one or more persons. It is a time-based service, calculated in units of 1/2 hour or major part thereof, with a minimum of 20 minutes of direct contact with the patient/relative/representative required for the first unit. Claims for this service must be submitted under the health number of the recipient or donor. A pre-booked appointment is required.
The physician must record on the patient's permanent medical record or chart the time when the insured service started and ended.
