K018 – Sexual Assault Examination - Female
OHIP Consultation & Visit Premium Codes Code — Family Practice & Practice in General (00) · Schedule of Benefits
For investigation of alleged sexual assault and documentation using the evidence kit provided by Ministries of the Attorney General and the Solicitor General. As a service under Consultations and Visits, this includes the common elements of all insured services (see -) and the specific elements of assessments (see ).
When to Use
- Use K018 when performing a comprehensive sexual assault examination that includes the mandatory completion of the provincial evidence collection kit.
- Use K018 instead of a standard A007 intermediate assessment when the encounter is specifically for the forensic investigation of an alleged sexual assault.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing K018 in conjunction with a standard office visit code (A007) is considered double-billing, as K018 is a comprehensive fee that encompasses the assessment.
- Attempting to bill K018 for a patient who is not female will result in an automatic rejection due to the gender-specific restriction of the code.
- Failing to document the use of the specific Ministry-provided evidence kit will lead to clawbacks during an audit, as the kit is a mandatory requirement for this fee.
Billing Tips
- Always append the appropriate Special Visit Premium (e.g., K962 or K963) if the examination occurs outside of standard office hours or in an emergency department setting to maximize the claim value.
