L079
L079 – L079
OHIP Dermatology Code · Schedule of Benefits
When to Use
- Use L079 for the excision of a single benign lesion, such as a skin tag or small seborrheic keratosis, when the procedure is performed via simple excision or curettage.
- Select L079 when the lesion is non-malignant and does not require the more complex closure techniques associated with Z001 or Z002.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing L079 in conjunction with an office visit (A007) is generally disallowed unless the excision is for a separate, unrelated clinical issue documented with a different diagnostic code.
- Avoid using L079 for biopsies; if the primary intent is diagnostic tissue sampling rather than therapeutic removal, use the appropriate biopsy code instead.
Billing Tips
- If removing multiple benign lesions, you may claim L079 for the first lesion and 50% of the fee for subsequent lesions, provided they are not part of the same anatomical site or procedure.
