L110
L110 – L110
OHIP Dermatology Code · Schedule of Benefits
When to Use
- Use L110 for the laboratory handling fee when you collect a specimen in your office and forward it to a laboratory for analysis.
- Apply this code when a patient presents for a nurse-led or physician-led blood draw or specimen collection that is subsequently sent to an external lab.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill L110 if the specimen is analyzed within your own office laboratory, as this is considered inclusive of your overhead.
- Avoid billing L110 in conjunction with a visit fee if the sole purpose of the visit was the specimen collection, as the collection is often considered part of the office overhead unless specific criteria for a separate encounter are met.
- Billing L110 for tests that are not covered by OHIP or for specimens collected by a third-party laboratory service will result in automatic rejection.
Billing Tips
- Ensure your clinical notes clearly document that the specimen was collected and prepared for transport to an external facility to support the claim during an audit.
