- Use L119 for the collection of a specimen for a Pap smear when performed as a standalone service or in conjunction with an office visit.
- Bill L119 when performing a cervical cytology screening where the primary purpose of the encounter is the collection of the sample.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill L119 if you are already billing a comprehensive periodic health examination code like K013, as the collection fee is considered inclusive.
- Avoid billing L119 on the same day as a minor procedure or consultation if the Ministry deems the collection incidental to the primary service provided.

- Ensure the diagnostic code reflects the reason for the screening, such as V76.2 for routine cervical screening, to prevent automated rejections.
