L137 – L137
OHIP Dermatology Code · Schedule of Benefits
When to Use
- Use L137 for the collection of a cervical smear (Pap test) when performed as a standalone procedure or as part of a general examination.
- Bill L137 when the physician performs the smear collection, regardless of whether the patient is symptomatic or asymptomatic.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill L137 in addition to a comprehensive assessment code like A007, as the collection fee is considered included in the general assessment.
- Avoid billing L137 if the specimen collection is performed by a nurse or other staff member, as this code is restricted to physician-performed services.
Billing Tips
- L137 is a technical fee that can be billed alongside a minor assessment (A001) if the visit is specifically focused on the procedure rather than a full physical.
