When to Use
- Use L200 to bill for the collection of a specimen for a throat swab when the laboratory analysis is performed by an external facility.
- Apply this code when a physician or nurse performs a venipuncture or capillary blood collection for diagnostic testing.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill L200 on the same day as an office visit (A007) for the same patient, as the specimen collection fee is considered inclusive of the visit.
- Avoid billing L200 if the laboratory analysis is performed in-office, as the collection is then bundled into the procedure fee.
