L260
L260 – L260
OHIP Dermatology Code · Schedule of Benefits
When to Use
- Use L260 for the incision and drainage of a superficial abscess, boil, or furuncle that does not require extensive surgical debridement.
- Select L260 when performing a simple incision and drainage of a paronychia or infected sebaceous cyst in an office setting.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing L260 in conjunction with a minor assessment code like A007 is often rejected unless the assessment is for a separate, unrelated clinical issue.
- Avoid billing L260 if the procedure requires significant excision or complex closure, as these scenarios may require higher-valued codes like S062 or S063.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the clinical note explicitly describes the incision and drainage process to justify the L260 fee over a simple examination code.
- If the procedure involves the removal of a foreign body in addition to the drainage, ensure you are not double-billing for the same site unless the foreign body removal is distinct and documented.
