L390
L390 – L390
OHIP Dermatology Code · Schedule of Benefits
When to Use
- Use L390 for the laboratory handling fee when you collect a specimen in your office and send it to an external laboratory for analysis.
- Apply this code when the patient is not present for the specimen collection but you are performing the administrative and logistical task of preparing the sample for transport.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill L390 if the laboratory analysis is performed in-house, as this fee is specifically for the handling and preparation for external transport.
- Avoid billing L390 in conjunction with a visit fee if the specimen collection was the sole purpose of the encounter, as the visit fee already covers the overhead of the office visit.
- Do not bill L390 for specimens collected by the patient at home and subsequently dropped off at your office for transport.
Billing Tips
- Ensure you only bill one L390 per patient per day, regardless of the number of specimens collected or the number of different laboratory tests requested.
