L441
L441 – L441
OHIP Dermatology Code · Schedule of Benefits
When to Use
- Use L441 for the collection of a cervical smear when it is the primary purpose of the encounter, as it is a specific laboratory requisition fee.
- Bill L441 when performing a Papanicolaou smear for screening purposes in accordance with provincial guidelines, distinct from a general physical examination.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill L441 in addition to a general assessment code like A007 if the smear is performed during a routine physical, as the smear collection is considered included in the physical examination fee.
- Avoid billing L441 if the patient is already being seen for a specific gynecological complaint where an office visit code (A001) is more appropriate, as L441 is intended for the technical collection service.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the laboratory requisition is clearly linked to the L441 service to justify the fee during potential Ministry audits.
