OHIP Dermatology Code · Schedule of Benefits

When to Use

  • Use L601 for the excision of a single benign skin lesion, such as a skin tag or small seborrheic keratosis, when the procedure is performed via simple excision.
  • Select L601 instead of A007 when the clinical focus is the surgical removal of a lesion rather than a general assessment or consultation.

Common Pitfalls

  • Billing L601 in addition to a minor procedure code like Z310 for the same lesion is considered double-dipping and will trigger a rejection.
  • Attempting to bill L601 for the removal of multiple lesions at the same site without using the appropriate multiple-lesion modifiers will lead to payment adjustments.

Billing Tips

  • If removing multiple distinct lesions during the same encounter, bill the first lesion at 100% and subsequent lesions at 50% using the appropriate suffix or modifier.
Provider Fee$15.51
