- Select L729 when the lesion removal is straightforward and does not require the complex closure or tissue advancement associated with codes like Z100 or Z101.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing L729 in addition to a minor assessment code like A007 is often rejected unless the assessment is for a separate, unrelated clinical issue.
- Avoid billing L729 for the removal of multiple lesions in the same anatomical region; use the appropriate multiple-lesion modifiers or higher-value excision codes if the total surface area warrants it.
