OHIP Dermatology Code · Schedule of Benefits

When to Use

  • Use L729 for the excision of a single benign skin lesion, such as a simple sebaceous cyst, when the procedure is performed in an office setting.
  • Select L729 when the lesion removal is straightforward and does not require the complex closure or tissue advancement associated with codes like Z100 or Z101.

Common Pitfalls

  • Billing L729 in addition to a minor assessment code like A007 is often rejected unless the assessment is for a separate, unrelated clinical issue.
  • Avoid billing L729 for the removal of multiple lesions in the same anatomical region; use the appropriate multiple-lesion modifiers or higher-value excision codes if the total surface area warrants it.

Billing Tips

  • Ensure the pathology report or clinical note explicitly describes the lesion as benign to justify the use of L729 over more complex excision codes.
