This service is an add-on to L816 (Electron microscopy by TEM, STEM or SEM technique). It covers analytical electron microscopy, which includes elemental detection or mapping and electron diffraction. This fee is claimed per case.
When to Use
- Use L831 when performing energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) or electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) to identify elemental composition during a specimen analysis already billed under L816.
- Claim L831 when the diagnostic protocol requires electron diffraction patterns to determine the crystalline structure of a sample alongside the standard imaging provided by L816.
Common Pitfalls
- Submitting L831 without a corresponding L816 claim on the same date for the same patient will result in an automatic rejection.
