M080 – Teflon augmentation larynx
OHIP Ophthalmology Code — RESPIRATORY SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Teflon augmentation of the larynx. The listed benefit for this procedure normally includes repair of any iatrogenic complications occurring during the course of the surgery performed by the same surgeon. The surgical benefit also includes the generally accepted surgical components of the procedure, as well as pre-operative and post-operative care as outlined in the Surgical Preamble ().
When to Use
- Use M080 specifically for the injection of Teflon paste into the vocal cord to treat unilateral vocal cord paralysis or glottic insufficiency.
- Select this code when the procedure is performed as a primary surgical intervention for vocal cord augmentation, distinct from more complex laryngeal reconstructions or excisions.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing M080 alongside other laryngeal procedures without applying the 85% multiple procedure rule as per the Surgical Preamble.
- Attempting to bill a separate office visit or consultation fee on the same day as the procedure, which is disallowed under the Surgical Preamble unless the visit is for a completely unrelated and significant problem.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the operative report clearly details the injection site and volume, as this documentation is required to support the surgical claim and justify the procedure code.
