Replacement of bone flap. As a surgical procedure, payment is eligible for the surgeon (suffix A), assistant (suffix B), and anaesthetist (suffix C) components. When to Use
- Use N202 for the formal replacement of a previously removed bone flap following a decompressive craniectomy or similar procedure.
- Use this code when the bone flap is re-secured to the cranium using plates, screws, or wires as a distinct surgical event.

- Do not bill N202 in conjunction with the original craniectomy code, as the replacement is typically considered a separate episode of care or a distinct stage.
- Avoid billing N202 if the procedure is merely a minor adjustment or simple wound closure, as these are often included in the global surgical fee of the primary procedure.
