Q960 – Travel Premium

This is a travel premium payable for a special visit to a non-professional setting not otherwise specified in the Schedule of Benefits. It applies to non-elective services rendered during weekdays between 07:00 and 17:00. A special visit is defined as a visit initiated by a patient or their representative for a non-elective service. This premium covers the travel to the location and is eligible for payment only for travel from one location to another. It is not payable for travel within the same facility complex. Only one travel premium is payable per trip, regardless of the number of patients seen.
When to Use
- Use Q960 when traveling to a patient's private residence for an urgent, non-elective assessment during standard weekday hours (07:00-17:00).
- Apply this code when performing an urgent home visit for a patient who is homebound and requires immediate medical attention that cannot wait for a scheduled office appointment.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing Q960 for multiple patients seen at the same location; only one travel premium is payable per trip regardless of the number of patients assessed.
- Submitting Q960 for visits conducted at a facility that is already open for patient care, such as a clinic or urgent care center, which violates the 'non-professional setting' requirement.
- Attempting to bill Q960 for services provided during routine office hours or for patients who present to your office without an appointment.
Billing Tips
- Always pair Q960 with the appropriate A-prefix assessment code (e.g., A007) to ensure the base service is captured alongside the travel premium.
