R030 – Minor burns
OHIP Integumentary System Surgical Procedures Code — INTEGUMENTARY SYSTEM SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Anaesthetist and surgical assistant services for the treatment of minor burns. This service is unit-based, with 6 base units for either service, plus time units.
A minor burn is defined in the Schedule on page as one of the following:
• Less than 10% Total Body Surface Area (TBSA) burn in an adult (age 10-50).
• Less than 5% TBSA burn in a young (≤9 years) or old (≥51 years) patient.
• Less than 2% TBSA full-thickness burn, regardless of age.
The surgeon's services for the procedure are billed separately. TBSA is calculated using the 'rule of nines' or the Lund-Browder chart.
Total Body Surface Area (TBSA) as calculated using the 'rule of nines' or the Lund-Browder chart must be documented.
The medical record must substantiate the classification as a 'Minor Burn' based on the TBSA and patient age or burn thickness.
