Anaesthetist and surgical assistant services for the treatment of minor burns. This service is unit-based, with 6 base units for either service, plus time units. A minor burn is defined in the Schedule on page as one of the following: - Less than 10% Total Body Surface Area (TBSA) burn in an adult (age 10-50). - Less than 5% TBSA burn in a young (≤9 years) or old (≥51 years) patient. - Less than 2% TBSA full-thickness burn, regardless of age. The surgeon's services for the procedure are billed separately. TBSA is calculated using the 'rule of nines' or the Lund-Browder chart.
When to Use
- Use R030 for anaesthesia or surgical assistance during the debridement or grafting of a burn that meets the specific TBSA criteria (e.g., <10% for adults 10-50).
- Use this code when the burn is classified as minor by TBSA percentage, distinguishing it from major burn care codes that require higher complexity billing.
