This service involves the surgical shortening of a single metatarsal bone. This procedure is eligible for surgeon (suffix A), assistant (suffix B), and anaesthetist (suffix C) fees. Assistant and anaesthesia services are unit-based and calculated using basic units plus time units. The service may also be eligible for various after-hours, special visit, age-based, and other premiums as outlined in the GP section of the Schedule.
When to Use
- Use R337 for the surgical shortening of a single metatarsal bone, such as in the correction of brachymetatarsia or symptomatic metatarsalgia.
- Use R337 when performing an isolated osteotomy on one metatarsal; if shortening multiple metatarsals, you must bill R338 for the additional bones.

- Billing R337 for multiple metatarsals in a single session without using the appropriate secondary code R338, which leads to claim rejections or audit flags for unbundling.
- Failing to document the specific metatarsal bone operated on, as the Ministry requires clear identification of the surgical site to validate the claim against the single-bone definition of R337.
