This service is for the surgical fusion (arthrodesis) of the hip. The service is billable by the operating surgeon (suffix A), an assistant (suffix B), and an anaesthesiologist (suffix C). - Assistant (B suffix): 6 basic units plus time units. When to Use
- Use R470 when performing a formal surgical arthrodesis (fusion) of the hip joint, distinct from joint replacement procedures like R469.
- Use R470 for salvage procedures where hip joint stability is achieved through fusion rather than prosthetic arthroplasty.
