R575Tenolysis - flexor and/or extensor tendon of one digit

OHIP Radiology Code — MUSCULOSKELETAL SYSTEM SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits

This service is a surgical procedure, known as tenolysis, to free a flexor and/or extensor tendon of a single digit from surrounding adhesions. The fee is for the treatment of one digit. For each additional digit requiring tenolysis during the same operative session, the add-on code E537 should be claimed.

When to Use

  • Use R575 for the surgical release of adhesions surrounding a flexor or extensor tendon in a single digit to restore range of motion.
  • Use R575 as the primary procedure code when performing tenolysis on one digit, even if multiple tendons (flexor and extensor) are released within that same digit.

Common Pitfalls

  • Do not bill R575 multiple times for multiple digits; use E537 for every digit beyond the first to avoid automatic rejection.
  • Avoid billing R575 in conjunction with R541 (Tendon repair) for the same tendon during the same session, as this may be flagged as unbundling or duplicate billing for the same anatomical site.
  • Ensure the operative report clearly specifies the digit treated, as generic descriptions often lead to audit inquiries regarding the necessity of the procedure.

Billing Tips

  • Always claim R575 for the first digit and E537 for each subsequent digit to ensure the full value of the operative session is captured.
