R710
R710 – Resection/ablation for ventricular tachycardia
OHIP Radiology Code — CARDIOVASCULAR SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Resection/ablation for ventricular tachycardia (to include cardiotomy, mapping with or without HIS bundle).
When to Use
- Use R710 for open surgical resection or epicardial/endocardial ablation of arrhythmogenic foci in patients with refractory ventricular tachycardia.
- Use this code when the procedure involves formal cardiotomy and intraoperative mapping, distinguishing it from percutaneous catheter ablation procedures which are billed under different codes.
Common Pitfalls
- Do not bill R710 for percutaneous electrophysiology studies or catheter-based ablations, as these are distinct procedures with their own specific fee codes.
- Avoid billing R710 as a component of other cardiac surgeries unless the ventricular tachycardia resection/ablation is a distinct, documented surgical procedure performed in addition to the primary surgery.
Billing Tips
- Surgical assistant services are not automatically payable for R710; if an assistant is medically necessary, you must submit the claim using M400B accompanied by a letter of justification from the surgeon for manual review.
