R934 – Aorto-femoral unilateral graft
OHIP Radiology Code — CARDIOVASCULAR SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Performance of a unilateral aorto-femoral bypass graft. The fee listed is for the primary surgeon (suffix A). For the bilateral procedure, see R785. Assistant (suffix B) and anaesthesia (suffix C) services are billed separately based on basic and time units as defined in the Schedule of Benefits. See pages - for surgical assistant calculations and pages - for anaesthesia calculations.
When to Use
- Use R934 for a unilateral aorto-femoral bypass graft procedure.
- Use R934 when the surgical approach is limited to one side, as opposed to the bilateral procedure covered under R785.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing R934 alongside R785 for the same patient encounter is a common error; R785 is the exclusive code for bilateral procedures.
- Attempting to bill for a second surgical assistant without prior authorization from a medical consultant, as R934 is not on the pre-approved list for second assistants.
- Failure to document the Injury Severity Score (ISS) when attempting to claim the E420 trauma premium for this procedure.
Billing Tips
- Ensure the surgical assistant and anaesthesia services are calculated using the specific basic and time units defined in the Schedule of Benefits, rather than flat fees.
- When multiple procedures are performed under the same anaesthetic, ensure the basic units for anaesthesia and the assistant are derived from the major procedure code.
