S267
S267 – Hepatectomy, three or four liver segments
OHIP Urology Code — DIGESTIVE SYSTEM SURGICAL PROCEDURES · Schedule of Benefits
Formal anatomical resection of three or four liver segments. This is a major excisional surgical procedure performed on the liver.
When to Use
- Use S267 for formal anatomical resections involving exactly three or four liver segments, such as a formal trisegmentectomy.
- Choose S267 when the procedure involves a formal anatomical approach as opposed to a simple wedge resection or non-anatomical excision.
Common Pitfalls
- Billing S267 concurrently with a cholecystectomy will result in a rejection, as the cholecystectomy is considered bundled when segments #4 or #5 are involved.
- Incorrectly billing S267 for minor liver resections or wedge excisions, which should be coded under different, lower-valued surgical codes.
Billing Tips
- If the procedure is performed laparoscopically or with laparoscopic assistance, ensure you append the E793 premium to receive the 25% fee increase.
- Always verify the patient's age at the time of surgery to apply the appropriate age-based premium, as these are significant percentage add-ons to the base fee.
